Programs & Services
At Joyous Tutoring, we believe literacy is the gateway to liberty—and we make it accessible through programs that blend one-on-one instruction, mentorship, and community connection.
1-on-1 Literacy Tutoring

Free, customized reading lessons for elementary and middle school students, especially those in public housing communities. Lessons are built around each child’s interests and current reading ability, with targeted instruction in word recognition, oral reading accuracy, reading speed, and comprehension. In-person sessions are available in Austin, with virtual tutoring for students anywhere.

The Joy Corps

High-achieving teens are trained, paid, and mentored to serve as literacy tutors and role models. Tutors gain leadership skills while helping younger students strengthen reading ability and confidence.
Chess Nights

Every Wednesday from 5–7 p.m., students and families from across Austin gather at the East Communities YMCA for Chess Night—a fun and challenging way to sharpen focus, build strategic thinking skills, and strengthen community bonds.

Our Approach in Action
From personalized lesson plans to rich reading materials, each program is designed to build skills, ignite curiosity, and inspire the next generation of leaders.
